Muting a site
A mute switches Reply Pilots off on one site for an hour, the rest of the day, or until you turn it back on, and while it is active nothing is injected into that site's pages at all — including the feed reading that supplies the planner. Mutes are stored on your account rather than in the browser, so they follow you between machines and a signed-out browser cannot be used to bypass one.
Setting a mute
Open the extension popup while you are on the site and choose a duration:

Unmute the same way — the popup shows the active mute and offers to lift it.
What a mute covers
Everything. While a site is muted:
- The in-page button is not injected at all.
- The highlight tools do not appear on that site.
- The feed reading that supplies the planner does not run.
This is not a hidden button. The extension detaches, so there is nothing on the page to read anything.
A mute beats every other setting. If the button is missing and you cannot work out why, check for a mute first — it is the most common answer.
Subdomains
A mute on a domain covers its subdomains. Muting facebook.com also mutes m.facebook.com.
It does not work in the other direction — muting a single subdomain leaves the parent domain active, which is what you want when you are silencing one section of a large site.
Mutes belong to your account
Mutes are stored on your account rather than in your browser. Three consequences:
- They follow you between machines. Mute on your laptop, and your desktop is muted too.
- They cannot be bypassed by signing out, because the extension does nothing at all signed out.
- Signing out clears them. They belong to the account, so ending the session ends them.
Because settings are cached briefly for speed, a mute set on one machine may take a short while to take effect on another. On the machine where you set it, it applies immediately.
Expiry is evaluated when a mute is read rather than by a cleanup job, so an expired mute lifts itself the moment anything checks — there is no window where a lapsed mute is still being enforced.
When to use which switch
