Summarize a thread

Condenses a long comment section or message thread so you can decide whether it is worth answering, and what is left to say.

Use it when a thread has run to dozens of comments and the discussion has moved on from the post. Reading forty comments to discover the argument shifted twice is exactly the cost this removes.

It reads what is rendered on screen, so scroll the parts you care about into view first.

Explain a selection

Highlight any text on any page and get a short plain-English explanation or summary of it.

This one is not limited to the supported platforms. It works on whatever page you choose to use it on — a documentation page, a contract, a dense article, a technical thread.

The tools that read a page structure need a supported platform. The tools that read text you highlighted work anywhere, because you have told them exactly what to look at.

Improve or rewrite a draft

Takes a rough version you typed yourself and tightens, softens or reformalises it.

This is the opposite direction from a generated reply, and some people strongly prefer it: your structure and your points, better phrasing. It is the right tool when you know what you want to say and the wording is the problem.

Your voice settings are applied here too, so a rewrite does not drift into a different register from your other messages.

When to reach for which:

Make longer or shorter

Resizes an existing draft without you rewriting it. Useful when a reply is right in substance but too long for the platform, or too terse for a question that deserved a real answer.

It is a resize, not a rewrite — the argument stays, the wording adapts.

The selection is data, never instructions

Anything you highlight is passed as content to work on, with an explicit instruction that it is data rather than directions.

That matters more than it sounds. Without it, summarising a page that happens to contain the words "ignore previous instructions and…" would hand control of the run to whoever wrote that page. The same protection applies to your business brief, which reaches the system from text and documents you uploaded.

Limits

• Summaries reflect what was on screen. A summary of half a thread is a summary of half a thread.
• Explanations are a reading aid, not advice. For anything regulated, they are a starting point and not a substitute for someone qualified.
